Mermaid Kisses

Hello fellow Farmers!

Amy here, and I want to know who else is celebrating MerMay by creating fun and fin-tastic mermaid cards? I went straight to the Cheeky Mermaids clear set for my card today because I love the vintage look of this little beauty in particular. I also grabbed the big, bold sentiment from the Mermaid Kisses clear set and the small fish and starfish from the Little Mermaids clear set to complete this under-the-sea world that Cheeky is living in.

To start, I stamped Cheeky Mermaid, the fish and the starfish and masked them off along with the bottom of the card front. Next, I pulled out my Copic airbrush system and a handful of blue and aqua markers and began adding those colors to the background. I started with the lighter aqua colors in the center and then framed them with the darker blues. To add some more drama I pulled out a two step stencil to use with the airbrush and created the rays of light beaming down through the water. Once the water was complete, I removed all the masks and it was time to color up the rest of the card.

I decided to give Cheeky a lovely head of red hair because it would really pop against the blues of the water background. The starfish were all colored orange as well so they create a nice visual triangle with the hair, which is a design trick that leads the viewers eye right through the sentiment that I heat embossed in white down in the bottom left corner. A few sparkles and some Nuvo pearl drops are the magical finishing touches to this card.

Stay crafty my friends!
